The library of the KEX Hostel waits for KEXP and guests arrive
Starting this Wednesday, join KEXP for our first EVER international broadcast! Live from the land of fire and ice, KEXP’s broadcast will include fifteen exclusive live performances from the aptly named KEX Hostel in Reykjavík for the Iceland Airwaves music festival! The broadcast begins this Wednesday, October 12, from 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM (Pacific Daylight Time) and continues through Friday the 14th. Each broadcast will showcase premier Icelandic musicians such as Gus Gus, Ólafur Arnalds, Jóhann Jóhannsson, Mugison, Lay Low, Of Monsters and Men, and many others! You can find out more about our broadcast here.
In addition to the broadcast, every day this week KEXP’s Song of the Day will be chosen from the catalogues of the Icelandic artists we’re featuring in our broadcast. Catch the first post from that series, a stellar track from For A Minor Reflection, over here. In the meantime, keep scrolling for video clips from choice bands on our schedule!

I’m starting to feel a little dumb for recently donating to what I thought was helping the station stay on air but it seems I’ve helped pay for a trip to Iceland for a crew of KEXPers. Jealous and bitter? Maybe. Consider putting that $180 towards a ticket so I can go to Iceland next year? Probably.
Slant6, we really appreciate your gift of support. Please be assured that your contribution won’t be spent frivolously. If you do consider the wealth of amazing music that we are able to bring to listeners this week from Iceland a questionable use of resources (did you hear the broadcast today?), then we would like for you to know that KEXP is visiting Iceland for our first ever international broadcast as guests courtesy of Iceland, IcelandAir, Icelandic Glacial and other festival sponsors sponsors. So for that and many other reasons, we hope that you will continue to find value in supporting KEXP. And we hope to introduce you to some new Icelandic bands during the rest of our broadcast as well!
@ slant6
The trip is being paid for by ICELAND which is unbelievable!
Otherwise this probably would not be happening.
That just goes to show how KEXP is making a difference by connecting people all over the World through music. I am proud to donate, volunteer, be a part of this connection and I don’t even work for the station. :)
Jim - That makes sense - thanks for responding!
