On the final day of our broadcast during Iceland Airwaves ’11, we featured a selection of the excellent non-Icelandic bands performing the festival. Oklahoma band Other Lives took to the intimate space of the KEX Hostel in Reykjavik first and proved to be one of the most well suited bands at the festival with their lush, orchestral pop sound, and were followed by the Scottish brogue rock of KEXP favs The Twilight Sad. Not surprisingly, local Icelandic band Hjaltalín drew one of the largest crowds of adoring fans, though they were evenly matched for fans with songwriter John Grant (formerly of The Czars), whose critically lauded solo debut is full of humor, heartbreak, and self-hatred. Brooklyn’s Caged Animals ended the night with a fun, frenetic white-jumpered set. Check out the videos from Day 3 below, and the videos from Days 1 and 2 here and here.
