Live Video: KEXP at CMJ, Day 2

Dum Dum Girls at the Ace Hotel New York

The second day of our live broadcast from Ace Hotel New York, sponsored by Toyota Free Yr Radio, was filled with some of the very best bands performing the 2011 CMJ Music Marathon & Film Festival. Brooklyn trio Widowspeak started the morning in the lobby of the Ace with a moody yet charming set of hazy, western twang-laden pop, sounding as if Mazzy Star grew out of the Tucson scene. If there were walls closer to them in the grand lobby of the Ace, Lafayette, LA’s GIVERS would have been bouncing off of them during their set of ecstatic blend of indie/surf/afro/younameit pop. Sub Pop band Dum Dum Girls stunned a packed house with their bad girl getups and retro sound that recalls all at once Blondie, The Pretenders and the Go-Go’s. Local favorites, Anacortes’ The Lonely Forest knocked it all down with an fiery performance to end the day (man, do they just get tighter and tighter!). Check out the videos from Day 2 here:
