  • Earlier this year SNL’s Fred Armisen and Sleater-Kinney’s Carrie Brownstein brought Northwest quirkiness to the masses with Portlandia, an IFC sketch comedy show about independent coffee shops, boutique hotels, extreme veganism, and everything else that makes Portland Portland. The show was cult hit, so much so that IFC decided to bring it back for a second season, which will kick off Friday, January 8. Guest stars from season one included locals Colin Meloy of The Decemberists, Corrin Tucker of Sleater-Kinney, and James Mercer of The Shins, and it was recently announced that season two will feature an all-star cast of cameos, as well. Slated to appear are Eddie Vedder, Joanna Newsom, Isaac Brock of Modest Mouse, Johnny Marr of The Smiths, Steve Jones of the Sex Pistols, and Annie Clark of St. Vincent.

  • According to a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal, Sigur Rós will be releasing a new album this spring, their first since 2008. The album was recorded after Jónsi finished touring in support of his 2010 solo album Go, and is reportedly “floaty and minimal.” This news comes a week before the release of Inni, a Sigur Ros live album and concert film that will be released November 15. The first ten minutes on Inni can be seen here.
  • Heavenly husband-and-wife indie poppers Tennis released their debut album Cape Dory earlier this year, and they’ve recently announced that their sophomore effort Young and Old will hit shelves on Valentine’s Day 2012 (Feb. 14) via Fat Possum. They recorded the album in Nashville with The Black Keys’ Patrick Carney behind the boards, and the drummer’s influence shows. Just take a listen to the new single “Origins,” (to be released December 6), and hear for yourself.
  • The Roots are releasing a concept album on December 6 entitled undun. Up until the release date (12/6), the hip hop collective will release a video every Tuesday at 12:06. This week’s video is for “Tip the Scale.” Watch:
