Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. This Thanksgiving week, KEXP is extending a hearty “thanks” to all of the local bands who’ve performed live at our studios this year with a few of our favorites. Today’s selection, which aired live on the Morning Show, with John Richards on July 20, is “The Round” by Pickwick, originally appearing on their 2010 self-released EP Myths, Vol. 2.
This July, Pickwick packed 12 musicians into KEXP’s studio space for an unforgettable performance that had people talking around the station for weeks. Led by the heavenly pure voice of front man Galen Disston and an infectious communal energy, the local soul and R&B revivalists made such an impression with KEXP that we brought them to the Mural Amphitheater in August for KEXP’s Concerts at the Mural Series, and barely a week later, to the Bumbershoot Music Lounge. Pickwick made their presence felt this summer not only at the station, but with listeners around Seattle and the world, and for many, it all started with their early-morning performance on the Morning Show with John Richards in July. Today’s featured song, “The Round,” is one of our favorites from that set. You can watch some videos from the session here.
As for upcoming performances, they’ll be playing at The Neptune on December 8! Check their Facebook page for more.
