Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. This Thanksgiving week, KEXP is extending a hearty “thanks” to all of the local bands who’ve performed live at the our studios this year with a few of our favorites. Today’s selection is “Your Own Kind” by Jesse Sykes and the Sweet Hereafter, recorded live on the Afternoon Show with Kevin Cole on August 1, 2011.
For Thanksgiving’s featured song of the day, we give you a beautiful song by Jesse Sykes and the Sweet Hereafter, who joined Kevin Cole on the Afternoon Show on August 1, playing a set on the same day as the release of Marble Son, from their own imprint label, Station Grey Records. This set was the start of a busy week for Jesse Sykes and guitarist and co-producer Phil Wandscher, bassist Bill Herzog, and drummer Eric Eagle, as they followed their epic set in our studio immediately with a kickoff of their West Coast tour with The Sadies. They’ve been continuing to perform around the world since and will be back in Seattle at the beginning of December. Check out a full lineup of dates on their website, and be sure to listen to more live performances on KEXP here.
