Here are a few more videos from our Iceland experience in October. As guests of the country of Iceland during the Airwaves festival, we were able broadcast from the KEX Hostel and host 15 incredible bands (which you can explore here). But we also took full advantage and invaded other bands’ practice spaces, studios, and even their homes to capture exclusive, intimate performances, and most importantly to further promote the amazing talent that Iceland has to offer. Gathered here are a few of those sessions. Mr. Silla is a new project combining musicians from various Icelandic bands, including by several members of múm, Kimono, amiina, and Seabear. Singer Sigurlaug Gísladóttir, a.k.a. Mr. Silla herself, is captivating, as is the band’s overall haunting, western vibe. Sóley has been performing with Seabear for a while now (and also with Sindri’s other project, Sin Fang), but this year she put out an excellent new album of her own. Composer Ólafur Arnalds also released an album this year — it’s actually a collection of songs recorded right in his living room, much like the one we filmed last year and this year (see below). And we also filmed the young sisters who perform as Pascal Pinon two years ago in their living room; this year, we brought them to the KEX Hostel’s Gym and Tonic space for another sweet session. This is just a sampling of the over 30 sessions we recorded in Iceland, so keep checking back, as there will be more to follow!
