Live Around Town This Week

It’s slowing down a little bit, but we’ve got a unique mix of shows to tell you about this week. All week long, Seattle Art Museum is hosting a unique exhibition by sculptor, urban planner, and performance artist Theaster Gates. Incorporating a vast array of disciplines, Gates’ solo exhibition at SAM will feature a collection of vinyl records that reflect cultural and social currents of the 60s, 70s and 80s. On Tuesday, Taj Majah Trio start a 6 day stint at Jazz Alley. For Wednesday, we’ve got a great show at the Croc with Tennis and Miniature Tigers. If that’s not your style, how about a free show at the Tractor with Anomie Belle, Cataldo, and Michael Navedo? Also highly recommended, Howe Gelb, Maggie Bjorkland, Tracy Shed, and Sweet Secrets are at Columbia City Theater. On Thursday, there’s a “Gigs4Good” benefit show featuring Drew Grow & The Pastors’ Wives, Lower Lights Burning, and Chris Cunningham (of Ravenna Woods) at the Tractor. If Rocking out is your thing, on Friday night The Cops and Hopscotch Boys play at the Tractor, while hip-hop moguls (Kanye West & Jay Z) aka The Throne take over the Tacoma Dome. On Saturday, The Moondoggies and The Maldives play at Neptune Theatre; however, the biggest show of the week has got to be Dinosaur Jr. at Showbox at the Market. With the band performing BUG in its entirety and a live interview by Henry Rollins, this show is a can’t miss (unless you forget earplugs). None of that sound interesting? How about Scratch Acid and Oxbow at Neumo’s? On Sunday, Portland Cello Project featuring Blind Pilot and Emily Wells are at Columbia City Theater, and our very own DJ Darek Mazzone spins tunes at “The Big Spin”, a benefit for uncompensated care at Seattle Children’s Hospital at Showbox Sodo.
