Monday News Roundup

  • Those still on the fence with Radiohead‘s 2011 LP, The King of Limbs, will get the chance to listen to more tasty morsels with two new tracks from the band, “The Daily Mail” and “Staircase,” being released as a single on December 19th. The tracks can be previously heard on the band’s “From the Basement” performance, which will also be seeing release digitally and in DVD/Blu-ray formats.
  • Music blog Mental Floss shares some interesting facts in “The Stories Behind 11 Classic Album Covers,” including lesser known facts about classic covers from The Who, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, U2, Nirvana, and more.

  • When you think of Led Zeppelin, what are the first things that come into your mind? Chances are, Trent Reznor and Karen O don’t make the top of the list. That’s all set to change with the duo’s cover of the classic “Immigrant Song,” set to a collage by director David Fincher for the title sequence of the upcoming film The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Watch it over at P4K.
  • Ryan Adams adds yet another cover to his repertoire, covering legendary dream-pop group Galaxie 500‘s “Blue Thunder.” Adams abandoned his guitar in favor of a piano, embarking on a mournful but affecting journey. The best part? This all happened during soundcheck. Listen at Soundcloud.
  • Apparently, last week saw the release of a workout video in which Bon Iver‘s Justin Vernon took to training his beard to do push-ups, or something. Now, instead of being a straight prank, details have surfaced that point to the thing being, well, a thing; that is, a full-length workout DVD with routines set to Bon Iver, Megafaun, and more. Watch the clip over at Vimeo.
  • Best Coast is a duo again. The band dismissed drummer Ali Koehler last week, leading her to Tweet about her disappointment and confusion, and that “your guess is as good as mine” as to the reasons why. Now, frontwoman Bethany Cosentino has stepped forward, writing on Facebook “”For those of you who are assuming things, Ali was informed 2 months ago that our live lineup was changing. There is no bad blood between any of us.” So… there you have it?
  • Robyn‘s infectious pop soared during City Arts Fest and Sasquatch!, and when she took to the stage on “Saturday Night Live,” it was no different. The superstar performed two cuts from her phenomenal “Body Talk” series and danced like a crazy robot, including the infamous backflip/stage hump combo from the video for “Call Your Girlfriend.” Watch “Girlfriend” below, and head over here to see her “Dancing On My Own.”
