Not much to find on Largehearted Boy’s list of new releases this week but a few choice items. Opening next weekend, in time for Christmas, is the new Cameron Crowe movie, We Bought a Zoo. Whether or not it’s going to be his next Almost Famous or Elizabethtown (the critics are saying somewhere in between), Crowe is always good for a terrific soundtrack (Vanilla Sky, anyone?). For Zoo, he tapped Sigur Rós frontman, Jónsi, who contributes a selection of songs from his 2010 release, Go, along with some new orchestral arrangements composed with Nico Muhly. If you know any fans of either Jónsi or Sigur Rós, you’ll want to add this one to their stockings.
For a neatly wrapped bundle of covers, try American Laundromat Records’ tribute to The Smiths, Please, Please, Please, featuring the musical gifts of Built to Spill’s Doug Martsch, Tanya Donelly performing with Dylan in the Movies, Trespassers William, The Caulfield Sisters, Telekinesis, and many others. David Gedge makes two appearances on the two-disc compilation, with his reinvigorated band The Wedding Present and his now defunct project Cinerama.
You’ll find these, and a few others, including actor/singer Charlotte Gainsbourg‘s latest, in stores today.
