We’d like to call it a homecoming, but NYC has owned Seattle native Chris Taylor, the bassist, vocalist and producer of Grizzly Bear, since he went off to college, and we’d like to believe that Taylor started his new solo project, CANT, just to give us in the Emerald City more opportunities to see him. But clearly, CANT is a means for Taylor to explore new ground. The album Dreams Come True, released on his own Terrible Records, blends mid- and downtempo dance grooves, vocal manipulations, analog and electronic instrumentation with varying degrees of distortion, and dynamic song structures that either build up, break down, or dissolve into oblivion. Though much of the album is a studio project (Twin Shadow’s George Lewis Jr. adds production), Chris Taylor brought a full band and a dizzying array of effects pedals to the KEXP studio to recreate the songs live.
