  • Each year, Yo La Tengo takes to Hoboken, New Jersey to perform a string of shows in celebration of the eight days of Hannukah. This year, the shows may be a bit less rocking than usual, as band member Ira Kaplan has mentioned he suffered a “pretty serious health scare” earlier this month, and will be confined to a chair onstage. The good news is that the shows will go on. Says Kaplan via blog post: “We’re looking forward to seeing you all, and to not answering any questions about what happened to me!”
  • Despite their recent cancellation of dates in London and Primavera Sound, Guided By Voices‘ new album from their “classic lineup” is going forward as planned, to be released January 1st. It’s the band’s first LP since 2004′s Half Smiles of the Decomposed, and you can catch a first listen of it over at NPR, who’s streaming the thing in its entirety.

  • Chan Marshall, a.k.a. Cat Power, has been keeping a pretty low profile since 2008′s Jukebox. But a little while ago, the frontwoman took to Twitter to say a few choice words that should inspire a little excitement: “ALMOST DONE WITH ALBUM. IN 9 DAYS WILL HAVE A SONG AVAILABLE FOR HOLIDAY CHARITY DOWNLOAD W O R D ! XXXX” According to label Matador, the song will be available December 24th, but won’t necessarily be appearing on the new, yet-untitled album.
  • The year’s almost done, but James Blake isn’t done with us yet. Following the release of his new EP Enough Thunder, he’s now released a video for “A Case of You.” The clip stars Rebecca Hall, and was directed by Seb Edwards. Watch:

  • While Arcade Fire‘s seminal, Grammy-winning album The Suburbs came out last year, that doesn’t mean it’s still not amazing. Add to their repertoire the creeps-inducing video for album standout “Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains)”. Watch:
