It’d be hard for us to say too many great things about Icelandic band Of Monsters and Men, though we’ve certainly tried (see here, here, and way back here). Their head-turning 2010 single “Little Talks” was enough to get them, er, talked about worldwide, and now fans everywhere are clamoring for a new album, which for now is available only in Iceland. Blogs, radio and satellite stations have already added them to heavy rotation, so before all of North America decides to invade the land of fire and ice to pick up their own copies of the debut, My Head Is an Animal, the band’s international label, Universal Republic, smartly hastened a four-song EP, released today!
Into The Woods is a brief foray into the heart of the album, selecting four songs right from its middle. “Little Talks” is an essential choice and easy winner with its instantaneous hooks. “Six Weeks” finds the band at their most epic, recalling Arcade Fire-like grandeur as it elevates a folky riff, while in a relatively spare gentle sweetness “Love Love Love” belies a tale of heartbreak. The gradual build of “From Finner,” the EP’s most dynamic tune, will soon lead you to singing la la la‘s and hey hey‘s loud enough to wake the neighbors. And to think, this is but a taste of the full 11-track LP! During this is otherwise empty week of new releases (see Largehearted Boy for the rest), your cup will runneth over with just this short EP. You’d be wise to catch them now.
