  • Yesterday, Sleigh Bells released a new track off of their upcoming February release Reign of Terror. While “Born to Lose” was our first taste of the album, the band considers “Comeback Kid” to be the first single. And what a single it is! “Comeback Kid” features Derek’s typical merciless guitars and Alexis’s trademark dreamy vocals, but fear not. Reign of Terror is not going to be a regurgitated sequel to their successful self-titled release. This track, as well as “Born to Lose”, are good examples of how the band is moving towards stronger songwriting and more memorable melodies. Where the self-titled had chants and cheers to scream out at militant pep rallies, Reign of Terror has anthems to serve as the soundtrack for the Apocalypse. Listen to “Comeback Kid” below:

  • Ryan Adams released a new music video today for Ashes & Fire track “Chains of Love”, where he plays upon a rooftop. Watch it here:

  • Das Racist member Heems released his first solo mixtape under his birth name Himanshu Suri. New Yorker Heems is releasing the mixtape in partnership with SEVA, a Queens community organization that focuses on raising awareness about legislative districting within the Queens borough. Das Racist has been known for their vocal presence in their hometown and the Nehru Jackets mixtape here is no exception. The release hosts more of Heems’s tripped-out hip hop and features guest spots by Danny Brown, Despot, Childish Gambino, Action Bronson, and Mr. M*********n’ eXquire among others. You can snag the mixtape here for free.
  • It’s going to be a busy year for Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and Cedric Bixler-Zavala. Along with the return of At the Drive-In, a new album was just announced for The Mars Volta entitled Noctourniquet. The album is slated for a March 27 release. At the Drive-In will be appearing at Coachella and will also be releasing new music this year. That is a lot of face-melting guitar for 2012. Read more about the new Mars Volta release via The Audio Perv.
  • More new music yesterday from electro-pop singer MNDR. Amanda Warner popped up on the scene in 2010 with the self-released E.P.E. 2010 also brought a little help from Mark Ronson as Warner was featured on “Bang Bang Bang” alongside rapper Q-Tip. MNDR released the fantastic single “Cut Me Out” in 2011 and this year, she will finally release a full-length album. “#1 in Heaven” is the first single off of that album. Listen to it via Pitchfork.
