With a name like Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, who could go wrong? But thankfully for all of us, these New Yorkers deserve the name. After all, they’ve been blowing our minds for over 20 years. With a ten LPs, a large collection of EPs and B-sides compilations and countless singles, Spencer and his band of rockers are master craftsmen in their own way. Blues Explosion is in a league of its own. Drawing on American roots music and down and dirty rock ‘n’ roll, their songs are a complex concoction of killer guitar riffs, classic rhythm and blues elements, and disorienting industrial noise and found sound. Spencer writes songs to destroy them and then rebuild them again. No two Blues Explosion performances sound the same. After all, does an explosion ever look the same twice?
The Blues Explosion will be heading out on tour to Europe in March. When they come back around, cancel all your plans and prepare to have your world turned upside down.
