Tuesday Music News

  • The Grammys are going indie-rock again this year! The music of Bon Iver is featured on this new commercial for the Grammys, along with a snow-ghost of Justin Vernon.
  • In celebration of the band’s 40th anniversary, The Vinyl Factory has released a 12″ vinyl featuring two new remixes of classic Roxy Music tunes. Listen to the chilled out Lindstrom and Prins Thomas remix of “Avalon” below:

  • M.I.A. released a new single yesterday entitled “Bad Girls”. The song was partially featured on her 2011 Vicki Leekx mixtape, but the track has been remixed and remastered and appears here in full quality. Anyone who might have been frightened off by her more experimental last LP /\/\/\Y/\ will be happy to hear that she is back in full pop form. Listen to it via Pitchfork.
  • If you thought that recent Flaming Lips releases were weird up until now, then this is probably not for you. “Now I Understand” is the latest little ditty from the band and it features Erykah Badu as well as the iPhone voice recognition bot Siri. It’s not meant to be complicated - it’s a simple tune with a cosmic message. But then again, I guess that describes what the Flaming Lips are all about. Listen to it below:

  • Spiritualized are releasing a new album in April, but we already knew that. The more interesting news is that they have posted quite a few Spring tour dates. No shows in Washington, and a Vancouver show on May 26th? Hmmm, let’s think about that.
  • Punk gods Fucked Up is releasing yet another Chinese Zodiac themed single. This year, it’s the “Year of the Tiger”. The band had a stellar year last year with the phenomenal David Comes To Life and their succeeding tour. The new 12″ single comes out in June, but you can listen to the stream of their past Chinese Zodiac releases right here:

  • Vivian Girls released their very own text-based Choose-Your-Own-Adventure Game yesterday. You don’t have to hide it - I know the nerd inside you is really excited. Bassist Katy Goodman coded the game herself using Ruby. Isn’t that great? You can download the game and learn how to play it at Goodman’s website.
