By now, you’ve most likely heard about the sad passing of Whitney Houston on every news outlet and social media network. Although you’re unlikely to hear Whitney Houston directly on KEXP, her influence was undeniable and widespread. Even the most jaded hipsters may count her songs and albums as a core part of their early music listening experience, and countless bands cite her as an inspiration. As news continues to spread online, her music and influence is being celebrated by a wide range of artists -- from Black Lips to Foster the People to Zola Jesus. Tonight on the Grammys, a star-studded array of artists will pay tribute to this great voice of a generation, but here we’ve collected a few surprising covers of her songs from independent artists including Evan Dando of Lemonheads, David Byrne, Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr., and some unknown Fleet Foxes-sound alikes, as well as the original performer of Houston’s hit “I Will Always Love You”: Dolly Parton.
Note: this is not the Fleet Foxes:
