Song of the Day: The Black Box Revelation – High on a Wire

Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part of our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased tracks, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Each and every Friday we offer songs by local artists. Today‚Äôs selection, featured on the Afternoon Show with Cheryl Waters, is “High on a Wire” by The Black Box Revelation from the 2012 album My Perception on Merovee Records.

The Black Box Revelation – High on a Wire (MP3)

Driven and sexy, today’s featured song is full of grit and melds a mastery of British Invasion and American-sounding rock ‘n’ roll. It’s a wonder they’re from Belgium. Two friends, Dries Van Dijik and Jan Paternoster, emerged into musicianhood jamming with another as The Mighty Generators. They emerged from their former name to release Set Your Head on Fire in 2007, and started a modest U.S. tour in 2008. Pioneering Belgium’s rock scene, this twosome, who are both still in their early 20’s, rivals the Black Keys and packs a mean aural punch, integrating traditional blues rock instrumentation, an organ, and wailing vocals in their third release so far.

The Black Box Revelation tore through Seattle a few months back and are now are gearing up for a tour that takes them through the Midwest and East Coast and finally to Europe. Those of us on the West Coast will have to wait for more dates to be scheduled and hope they come back soon. Keep checking their website and Facebook page for updates. For now, here’s the video for today’s featured song:

Thanks for the song but High on a Wire is not from the 2011 (not 2012 as stated in article) album My Perception. It is from the 2010 album Silver Threats.
Great track to choose even if it is from the previous album.

Jeff, perhaps the song was released earlier in Europe, but it will indeed be the first single from 2012’s “My Perception”. You can see the track list and stream the entire new album here:
