Song of the Day: Posse – Sarah

Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part of our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased tracks, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Each and every Friday we offer songs by local artists. Today‚Äôs selection, featured on the Midday Show with Cheryl Waters, is “Sarah” by Seattle locals Posse.

Posse – Sarah(MP3)

“Oh Sarah, I’ve got to tell you. It’s not me, it’s you.” You can’t get much more straightforward than that. That statement is a bit representative of the track, too. All three members of the band are quite familiar with the Seattle scene, having played in local bands like Painted Hills and Red Sea Sharks, but Posse takes life of its own.

Posse describe themselves as “the musical equivalent of a condor dying in mid-air and falling to the ground, its wings still flapping and the wind forcing its beak away from the impact”. Their sound draws from vein of playful but loud post-pop as the Black Lips and Dom, and at times, even hint at a bit of Yo La Tengo. Regardless of their influences, Posse are a fun listen, and “Sarah” is the quintessential introduction to their sound.

You can catch Posse around town, as they have a couple upcoming Seattle shows including the next KEXP Audioasis Benefit son on March 3rd at Sunset Tavern. Visit their website, Facebook and their Bandcamp pages to learn more about the band! And watch the video for “Hey Suzanne” below:
