Concert Preview: Miniature Tigers, Chain Gang of 1974, & Geographer @ Tractor Tavern

Tonight, Tractor Tavern will host three of my favorite Brooklyn indie-pop acts (one of which is sort of from Denver).

Miniature Tigers are releasing a new album on March 6th entitled Mia Pharoah. The album is full of playful electro-pop with addictive falsetto melodies - think Hot Chip and Of Montreal mashed together with a touch of Orange Juice. With every song, Miniature Tigers tease and flirt, but do everything to a beat. The full album is streaming on their website now, including the lead single “Sex on the Regular”.

Chain Gang of 1974 released their fantastic full length debut Wayward Fire last summer (which, conveniently enough, lined up great with summer playlisting season). Wayward Fire is a diverse and fun indie-pop record, ranging from the electro-funk of LCD Soundsystem to the dance-pop of Junior Boys, and finding something everywhere in between. Plus, they throw a great live show. Their website is also streaming a handful of Wayward Fire highlights.

Geographer just released their new album Myth on Tuesday. It is without a doubt their strongest release yet. In the past, they’ve stuck with straightforward electro-pop with a touch of chiptune cuteness, mixed with the occasional mellow jam. But with Myth, Geographer goes in a different direction, taking their danceable, pop sound to a full band context without losing their audience. It is their most accessible album to date and hosts some fantastic songwriting, that at times resembles Grizzly Bear, and at other times resembles the Helio Sequence. The lead single off the new album is available for free download on their website.

These three bands will be joined, for the first time on their tour, by dance-punk band Pretty & Nice.

The show tonight is an unbeatable 9 dollars. For all this music, it’s a steal. See you at Tractor Tavern tonight, and listen to some more music from each of the headliners below:
