Tuesday Music News

  • Best Coast have announced a new album, entitled The Only Place, and it is slated for a May 15th release on Mexican Summer Records. In sharp contrast to her first record, Bethany Cosentino calls this one “grown up” and “seriously emo”, according to Pitchfork. The band also announced a Spring tour, including a stop at Neptune Theater on May 22nd.
  • British electronic legends Burial and Four Tet have teamed up once again for another fantastic track entitled “Nova”. The track is an ambient, warm, house-tinged track that feels right at home with the catalogue of both artists. Listen here:

  • New York noise-rockers HEALTH have indirectly announced a new album, coming out this May. The band is composing the soundtrack to Rockstar Games new project Max Payne 3. The game’s edgy atmosphere seems to be a perfect home for the band’s sound. While the date for the soundtrack release has not been announced yet, the game comes out May 15th.
  • The first track from s/s/s, the new collaboration project between Sufjan Stevens, Son Lux, and Serengeti. Well that’s simply superb. Expect lots more of Stevens’ T-Payne impressions with smooth rap lines laid over them. Listen to “Museum Day” below, and watch for the full EP Bear & Claw, out March 20.

  • Record Store Day announcements are starting to pop up everywhere, and now Neon Indian is making a contribution: he will be releasing a 10″ single for Era Extra├▒a cut “Hex Girlfriend”. The A-side features the album version of the track, while the B-side is a remix of the song by fellow chill-waver, Twin Shadow. The remix is available for download at Pitchfork here. Watch for the limited run release on Record Store Day, April 21, 2012.
