- SXSW is seeing some odd last minute additions to the lineup. Next week, Jay-Z will be returning to Austin (he made a surprise performance last year for Kanye West‘s G.O.O.D. Music label) to play for American Express. The entire performance will be streamed live on the AmEx Youtube page here. So look for it 6pm Pacific Time on Monday the 12th. In addition, 50 Cent has announced that he will be representing his own Shady Records label and performing the entirety of his well-loved classic album, Get Rich or Die Tryin’. Let’s hope someone posts that on Youtube as well.
- In a recent interview with Pitchfork, Passion Pit mastermind Michael Angelakos as (indirectly) announced that we will see a new Passion Pit record by June of this year. The band has been hard at work in the studio for the last couple months and the new record will feature even more layers on top of layers of ridiculous melody.
- Soul legend Bobby Womack (or for the younger generation, that guy from the Gorillaz song “Stylo”) has announced a new album and released a new single. Damon Albarn is serving as a producer, and the album will be released through XL Records. One of the tracks, called “Dayglo Reflection”, will feature a vocal contribution from Lana Del Rey. Check out the new single “Please Forgive My Heart” below:
- Mississippi rapper Big K.R.I.T. has released a beautiful video for “Boobie Miles”, the single off of his new mixtape 4eva N a Day. The song isn’t half as objectifying as it may sound. In fact, it’s a heartfelt track about the miles between trying and feeling defeated but eventually reaching success. The video is a beautiful accompaniment that hosts a similar vibe. Check it out below, and download K.R.I.T.’s new mixtape 4eva N a Day here.
- 90s R&B loving Lemonade are releasing a new track on Stereogum for free. It’s called “Neptune”, and it comes from their new album Diver, out on True Panther Records later this year. “Neptune” has fantastic energy and is a great throwback. Grab it here.
