Chuck Prophet‘s most recent release, Temple Beautiful, is filled with the myth and reality that make San Francisco alive and weird. Whether he’s singing about unique characters who are inspiring (Willie Mays), quirky (Emperor Norton), or notorious (Jim Jones); past events remembered either fondly (Halloween in the Castro district) or tragically (the White Night riots); or seedy places nearly forgotten (former rock club Temple Beautiful), Chuck Prophet fills this love song to the City by the Bay with what can clearly be seen as a deep sense of pride. Recently Chuck Prophet returned to KEXP with his band, the Mission Express, featuring his wife and singer/organist Stephanie Finch, bassist Kevin T. White, guitarist James Deprato and their most recent addition, drummer/singer Kyle Caprista, to follow up Temple Beautiful with an equally spirited performance live in our studio.
