Video Roundup: Grunge is/not Dead!

Perhaps no other day marks Seattle music history like April 5. Eighteen years ago today, Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain took his life. Eight years later, on April 5, Alice in Chains’ Layne Staley died from a drug overdose. But also on April 5, Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready was born. (AIC’s original bassist Mike Starr was born a day earlier.) So what better day to celebrate local music, particularly the era that made Seattle in/famous? On the Morning Show, John Richards is spinning all Seattle music, and you’ll no doubt hear loads more throughout the day. For online listeners, we’ve put together this playlist of local bands, mostly contemporaries and precursors to the legendary early 90’s era of Northwest rock:
