It was reported recently that Levon Helm, founding member of The Band, an award winning drummer and instrumentalist in his own right, was “in the final stages of his battle with cancer.” Today comes the sad news that Levon Helm has passed away. According to the Levon Helms Studios website, “Levon Helm passed peacefully this afternoon. He was surrounded by family, friends and band mates and will be remembered by all he touched as a brilliant musician and a beautiful soul.” His legacy as will no doubt be regarded for years and years to come.
