Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different songs as part of our Song of the Day podcast subscription. Today’s selection is “Young Bucks” by Dinosaur Feathers from the 2012 album Whistle Tips on Ernest Jenning Record Co.
Even dinosaurs have to evolve. Brooklynite bandmates Ryan Michael Kelly (bass), Greg Sullow (guitar and vocals), Derek “Duck” Zimmerman (keyboards and vocals) the drum machine prevalent on their 2010 release, Fantasy Memorial, with Nick Brooks, and actual drummer! But their second album, Whistle Tips, out last week, finds Dinosaur Feathers basking in the same sunny climes and is full of the light tropical melodies and quirky songs that made their debut so enjoyable. From it, today’s featured song, “Young Bucks,” is a jaunty tune about finding the truth, a guy denying he did nothing wrong and a girl vainly trying to pin it on him. The drama rolls off his shoulders, though, as the song launches into an uninhibited sense of ease.
You’ll be able to kick back soon with Dinosaur Feathers, who are currently on tour and will be hitting the Crocodile in Seattle on May 18th. For more info and other tour dates, visit their website.
