  • You’ve probably heard of his other projects:  Bright Eyes, Monsters of Folk, Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band… but Desparecidos?!? It’s been a while! Details on Oberst reuniting with his old punk/hardcore band for Nebraska’s Maha Music Festival this August can be found here.
  • Today, Wilco‘s pivotal album Yankee Hotel Foxtrot celebrates its tenth anniversary. Not only did the album redefine the band for the rest of their current career, but the story behind its releases (Reprise notoriously dropped them after an internal personnel change, and another AOL Time Warner affiliate, Nonesuch, picked it up) is a tale of its time. Read Stereogum’s assessment of how the album holds up today here.

  • What to hear Fiona Apple’s first new recorded material since 2005’s Extraordinary Machine? Listen to “Every Single Night” now:

  • And the award for highest-selling vinyl single of Record Store Day 2012 (if there was actual accreditation for such an achievement) goes to the artist noted here.  Hint:  Metallica’s Lars Ulrich has expressed interest in drumming for him.
  • In 2010, art-rock group Animal Collective took over Manhattan’s Guggenheim Museum with their three-hour performance piece, Transverse Temporal Gyrus, a psychedelic menagerie of music, costumes, props and art, designed to take you inside the band’s artistic minds. Now, Animal Collective has unveiled a new website that recreates the 2010 performance in all its glory.
  • Lana Del Rey just released a new, Instagramatic new video for “Carmen,” featuring found clips mixed with fanboy drool-inducing glam shots of Lana. Watch now:

  • While Fun. has decidedly taken their mainstream exposure post-Glee treatment in stride, Australian artist Gotye feels let down by the Fox hit show’s seemingly lackluster rendition of “Somebody That I Used to Know.”  Judge for yourself by viewing the full performance below and read up on the artist’s overall displeasure regarding the matter here.

Wow the new Fiona Apple song is ridiculous. That bad boy is going to sound fantastic on vinyl. Saw that the album is coming out on June 19. Sweet!
