Wednesday Music News

  • In March of 2010, Animal Collective performed a live music installation at the Guggenheim Museum in New York City, with visuals provided by Danny Perez (also of past collaboration for visual feast Oddsac). In honor of this year’s Record Store Day, music from the exhibit, titled Transverse Temporal Gyrus, is now streaming. Check it out over at Stereogum. If you’d like to experience the heady soundscape and visuals in a more in-depth manner, the band recently set up an interactive site of footage and material from the Guggenheim show, here.
  • Still can’t get enough of Grimes? Check out this ethereal live performance from last night’s British late night program, Later... with Jools Holland.

  • It’s been a busy year for Jack White. Just after the release of his solo album, Blunderbuss, it’s been announced that White will write, produce, and perform the score for Disney’s new adaptation of The Lone Ranger. White has made musical contributions to movies in the past, such as a small role in the 2003 hit Cold Mountain, where he sang traditional American folk-ballads. Check out a KEXP review of his new solo album, here.
  • If one of your favorite parts of watching Late Night with Jimmy Fallon is his backing band, The Roots, don’t miss their thick and slow soul sounds in the video below of last night’s “Slow Jam the News” with a very special guest.

  • After successfully forming Fistful of Mercy with fellow musicians Joseph Arthur and Ben Harper, Dhani Harrison and his other project, Thenewno2, have announced their second release. Look for thefearofmissingout and the band’s appearance at Lollapalooza both in early August. Find out more here.
