This year, the University of Washington celebrates 150 years of existence. To celebrate, this year’s Huskyfest was even more eventful than usual. Thursday night, 4/19/2012, Rainy Dawg Radio hosted the Brick Dance - a dance party inside a massive tent set up in Red Square.

Warming the crowd up was DJ Super-Vova (Vladimir Sepetov), spinning fresh takes on radio hits and mixing them all into one continuous club jam. Then, headlining the event was a DJ set by Vito Roccoforte and Gabriel Andruzzi of The Rapture. Taking a drive between their two weekends at Coachella, the Rapture boys played a great set and got Huskyfest off to a wonderfully danceable start.

The Rapture are long time DFA aficionados and dance-punk heroes, so naturally, the set pulled lots of disco and funk – perhaps more so than most were expecting. But within a few songs, the crowd was warmed up to the sound and loving it. Mixing in bits of nu disco and house as the night went on, the Rapture kept the energy building all night. Finally, DJ Self-Actualized (Reed Juenger of Seattle electronic act Beat Connection) finished out the night with an excellent set.
