Spiritualized

  • Check out the full recent live performance of Spiritualized on Letterman - the band plays a heavy version of the track “Hey Jane” from upcoming album Sweet Heart Sweet Light. Notice that two things haven’t and will likely never change: Jason Pierce is wearing sunglasses, and David Letterman seems grumpy about something. Video here:
  • In more music-related late night talk show news: NBC’s Late Night host Jimmy Fallon just announced his second album, which will feature mainly song parodies from the show. Remember Fallon’s team up (as Neil Young) with Bruce Springsteen a couple of months ago? It’s on there! Check out the tracklisting for the June 12 release of Blow Your Pants Off on Rolling Stone and watch a Kevin Cole favorite here:

  • Buzzy solo artist Youth Lagoon has announced tour dates with Seattle ex-pat J. Tillman of Father John Misty (previously of the Fleet Foxes, and recent KEXP in-studio performer). The two will route through North America, occasionally splitting for summer festival dates (including Youth Lagoon at Capitol Hill Block Party in July). Find full tour dates here. Listen to audio from Father John Misty’s live in-studio over at our live performance archive.
  • Silent for almost 6 years, news has dropped that electronic duo, The Blow, will be releasing a new album later this year. Two drastic changes have taken place with the band: Jona Bechtolt (of the band Yacht) has left, but Khaela Maricich is now accompanied by artist Melissa Dyne, and the band now resides in New York City. The Blow were known for being part of the early 2000′s, pre-Portlandia era stirrings of the Portland music scene. An in-depth Stereogum interview with the band reveals that a change in location may have refreshed their musical inspirations for the upcoming album. Read the full interview here.
  • Local punk outfit Mean Jeans is making the journey north to Seattle to play at the Funhouse on Friday - the show will be in celebration of their LP release, and will be rounded out by bands Juvenille Hall, Shakes, and Sweet Pups. Check out the Ramones-esque sound of Mean Jeans in the video for track “Anybody Out There” below.
