Monday Music News

  • Mick Jagger closed out his hosting duties for last Saturday’s season finale of SNL by performing a medley of Rolling Stones songs with Arcade Fire, The Strokes, and Foo Fighters as his backing bands.  Somewhere out in musicland, the kitchen sink feels left out.  Videos of that performance can be found here.
  • Radiohead’s Kid A and OK Computer remade 8-bit style?!?  Wow.  I might just lose it if he redoes In Rainbows:

  • Not an hour after it was reported that Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees was reported as deceased, drummer for Crowded House,  Peter Jones, has also passed due to losing his battle with brain cancer.  Our sympathies go out to his friends and family.  More details here.
  • Poised (poising?) to make a comeback later this year, Franz Ferdinand, whose last album was way back in January 2009, unveiled four new songs,  ”Right Thoughts,” “Brief Encounters,” “Fresh Strawberries,” and “Trees And Animals,” last Saturday in Ireland.  Check out “Right Thoughts” here now:

  • Not sure how “Ég Anda” translates, as Icelandic band Sigur Rós sing in their own made up language, but the new video for the opening track from their upcoming release, Valtari, may very well be play-by-play instructions to help someone who is choking... but you might be better off consulting a first aid manual. Watch the video here:
