It isn’t unusual to find Rachel Flotard on KEXP. Her (former) band Visqueen remains one of the KEXP Community’s best-loved Seattle favorites. Her record label, Local 638, has issued stellar full-lengths from Shelby Earl, Cristina Bautista, and Star Anna and the Laughing Dogs. Go poke around the KEXP Flickr pages, and you’ll find snaps of Rachel performing live in our studios, singing harmonies for fellow artists including the Posies and Neko Case, and goofing around with John Roderick (The Long Winters) on Audioasis.
But tonight, Rachel will be joining us on KEXP in a different capacity. Tune in between 6:00pm and 9:00pm and you’ll hear her hanging out in The Roadhouse with Greg Vandy, encouraging you to support KEXP during our Summer Fundraising Drive. I asked Rachel why she wanted to go this extra step in helping us, and here’s what she replied:
I’m part of a huge pile of Seattle folks who feel prideful about having a station like this right in our own backyard, yet supporting KEXP feels like an investment in my own good time.
It HAS to exist. My dough can make a difference. So here I am.
I can’t count how many instances at home or in my musical travels that KEXP has connected me to other friends and listeners. This station reaches far beyond Washington as a punk rock beacon of originality.
Make a gift to KEXP right now, and keep that beacon shining brightly. By connecting with KEXP and other music lovers, you are, as Rachel so aptly puts it, investing in your own good time – and that’s money well spent. But I’m sure she can explain it better than me. Tune in to The Roadhouse tonight and find out!
