Thursday Music News

  • In further news of the VW vs. Beach House debacle, VW has issued a statement, saying that their recent commercial does not copy Beach House’s music (though if you watch it here, the track sounds quite a lot like the Teen Dream track “Take Care”, which VW had tried to obtain rights to numerous times) and that they greatly respect the artistry of the band. Unfortunately, this cop out doesn’t justify this infringement on Beach House’s work. Beach House is considering pressing charges, but are currently concerned about the cost of taking legal action.
  • In happier news,Beach House has also put together a video for “Lazuli” directed by Allen Cordell. As can be expected, the video is a spacey trip involving time, space, chicken wings, and an apartment building. Watch it below:

  • Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti have announced new album Mature Themes, out on 4AD August 21. With it, the band has released a gorgeous cover of “Baby” by Donnie and Joe Emerson. The band will go on tour shortly after the release of the album, and they will be in Vancouver on September 27 and Portland on September 29 (it’s the closest they get to our fair city). Check out “Baby” below:

  • For his 16th release for Text records, Four Tet gives us “128 Harps”. While it may not utilize 128 of them, the track features harp heavily alongside bells and a subtle vocal sample. Altogether, it makes for yet another quiet-yet-engaging electronic offering from this master of the art.
