Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Today’s selection, featured on the Morning Show with John Richards, is the title track by Langhorne Slim & The Law off his 2012 album, The Way We Move, on Ramseur Records.
Like the boxers that adorn the album’s cover, Langhorne Slim & The Law’s newest LP is never lacking in energy or ferocity. Lean and muscular, Slim and his dynamic three-piece band plow through barn-burners and ballads alike. As tight and palpable as their musical chemistry is with one another, their secret weapon is Slim’s scratchy howl, which shines on the title track. A bluesy shuffle of a number, “The Way We Move” tumbles with honky tonk piano and rumbling stand-up bass, and when Slim and the boys raise their voices together in the chorus, it’s clear that they’re having just as much, if not more, fun as the listener is.
Langhorne Slim & the Law will be back in the Northwest in early August for Pickathon and will stop by KEXP on his way down to Oregon’s Pendarvis Farm for an in-studio session on Friday, August 3, at 1:00pm. So far, no other dates are booked, but if keep an eye on his website to be the first to hear about any new shows and watch the video for today’s featured song below:
