Wednesday Music News

  • Indie-rock supergroup Divine Fits, the new project from Spoon’s lead singer Britt Daniel, Wolf Parade frontman Dan Boeckner, and Sam Brown, the drummer from the band New Bomb Turks, unveiled their first single today on Facebook. The single, titled “My Love Is Real,” is the same song that appeared on a video teaser put out by the band a while back and features a rigid beat accompanied by Boeckner’s howling voice and pulsing synths. In order to stream the song you have to “like” the band on their Facebook, which, if you’re a fan of either Spoon or Wolf Parade, is well worth the hassle.
  • MusicFestNW, a five-day music festival in Portland featuring over 150 artists, has just added nine more acts to their line-up, including The Hives, Flying Lotus, Quasi, and Moon Duo. The festival takes place in several of Portland’s finest venues and this year features The Tallest Man On Earth, Dinosaur Jr., Purity Ring, Future Islands, The Silversun Pickups, and many, many more. For more information head over to Brooklyn Vegan, and be sure to check out the full line-up and purchase tickets at MFNW’s website.

  • Recently divorced Sonic Youth band members Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon have announced that they will release a full-length album as part of a collaboration with experimental artist Yoko-Ono. The album, titled YOKOKIMTHURSTON for obvious reasons, follows a benefit single recently put out by the trio on Chimera Music and will be released on September 25. For a preview of the album might sound like, and to experience what it’s like when two people don’t really play their guitars for nine minutes while another person screams, check out the video below via of Consequence of Sound:
