Monday Music News

  • Indie rock/hip-hop duo Matt and Kim locked themselves in their home studio this past winter to watch an excessive amount of Game of Thrones / Downton Abbey.  Oh, and of course, to work on their upcoming fall release, Lightning, which, today, has just seen its first single, “Let’s Go,” released today on both Soundcloud and iTunes.  Fortunately, for you, we also have the direct YouTube link here, now:

  • The Yoko Ono, Kim Gordon, and Thurston Moore dream collaboration you’ve been waiting your whole life to hear has just made some serious headway.  The trio’s six-track album, titled “YOKOKIMTHURSTON,” is set to be released September 25 in the U.S. and September 24 internationally via Chimera Music.  In the meantime, check out a video of them performing “Mulberry,” off of Ono’s Blueprint for a Sunrise album, circa 2010:

  • I guess Damon Albarn and company in Blur are just attracted to breaking records.  Only a mere year after Blur bassist Alex Jams hosted London’s bid for Guiness World Record’s largest picnic table, the band are set to debut two new songs, “Under the Westway,” and “The Puritan,” next Monday (July 2nd) in the world’s first live video performance via Twitter.  Further details on that can be found here.
  • U.S. East Coasters are in luck; Bon Iver has just added additional tour dates for this coming September.  Tour dates can be found here.
  • You could say that the album title has seemingly multiple meanings.  Today, the four members of Bloc Party have revealed the tracklisting for their upcoming forth album, titled Four, due in late August.  A list of the tracks can be located here.
  • Chalk this up as almost too good to believe:  Rapper El-P is slated to appear on “Conan” this Wednesday, June 27th, with his friend and KEXP stalwart Zola Jesus in tow.  If it is half as good as this left field collaboration between Florence & the Machine and Brit rapper Dizzee Rascal, then we’re in for quite the musical gem:
