Apparently, no topic is off limits for Silversun Pickups guitarist Brian Aubert -- just listen to his conversation with the Midday Show’s Cheryl Waters about breast milk at the end of the full performance video below -- but their easy rapport comes with years of familiarity and friendship, as KEXP has long championed the Silverlake band. Ever since we first jumped on their then soon-to-be hit “Kissing Families,” they’ve been hanging around, first performing live on KEXP back in 2005, then during special events like our SXSW broadcast in 2006 and for a VIP Club show in 2007, even a private show at Bear Creek Studios in 2009, but it’s been a while since they’ve been live on air. In fact, we thought we were finally rid of them, until earlier this year they put out a terrific new album, Neck of the Woods, so we knew we had to get them back. For a special acoustic performance in the KEXP studios, Aubert was joined by co-conspirator and bassist Nikki Monninger to play four new songs, while supposedly Christopher and Joe kick back by the pool at home. Heartfelt and emotive, Brian’s powerful voice and Nikki’s intricate finger plucking and vocal harmonies prove that no matter how amusing they are conversationally, Silversun Pickups are musically deadly serious. Get slayed watching this session now, and be sure to watch the full performance video through to the very end!

Great band. Great videos. However, it’s “easy rapport” not “easy report”.
