Friday Music News

  • Fans of the recently disbanded experimental duo The Books rejoice! The band recently announced plans to release A Dot In Time a box set spanning their entire career via Temporary Residence on July 24. A Dot In Time will include the band’s four albums, as well as 45 rare and unreleased tracks. The set will also contain a USB full of music, a DVD featuring a two-hour-long documentary, and a book about Golf. For more information, head over to Temporary Residence.
  • Portland-based indie-folk Blitzen Trapper have released a video for the song “Girl In A Coat” off their 2011 album American Goldwing. The video, drenched in sentimentality, follows the final days of an adorable old man as he revisits places and memories from his past through quick cuts and a retro looking filter. Although it’s not a tear jerker, the video definitely doesn’t do a lot to alleviate the melancholy nature of the song. Check out the video below:

  • Cleveland indie-rockers Cloud Nothings swung by Jimmy Fallon last night to perform their hit song “Stay Useless” off their 2012 release Attack on Memory. Don’t miss the video over at Stereogum, and check out the Cloud Nothings’ live KEXP in-studio session below. Also be sure to catch Cloud Nothings at this year’s Capitol Hill Block Party.

  • Jack White has released a trailer for the upcoming music video for his song “Freedom at 21″ off his 2012 solo debut Blunderbuss. The video, directed by Hype Williams, features a lot of crazy colors and arcade style titles and appears to be an action packed extravaganza. Check out the trailer for the video, which debuts next monday, below:

  • In a recent CBS interview, Stevie Nix announced that Fleetwood Mac would reunite for several shows in 2013. As one insightful Stereogum commenter pointed out, “…when God closes a Chumbawumba, he opens a Fleetwood Mac.” For more information, head over to Prefix.
