Barboza was packed and buzzing with excitement a good 20 minutes or more before Fitz and the Tantrums came onstage with the crowd-pleasing “Breaking the Chains of Love”. With the October 9th release date of their sophomore album approaching fast, the Los Angeles six-piece is making the most of their last few dates supporting their debut, Pickin’ Up The Pieces, including a live broadcast for KEXP at the Capitol Hill Block Party.

Their groovy upbeat soul got the audience clapping and dancing right from the start. There was no sense that the band was holding anything back on the small stage, even though I knew they’d be tearing up the Main Stage later tonight at 10:45.

It’s going to be an unmissable party that will serve as a fitting finale to the first chapter of Fitz and the Tantrums’ career.
