Today’s selection, featured on the Morning Show with John Richards, is “Baby It’s You” by Black Nite Crash from the 2012 album Drawn Out Days on Neon Sigh.
Taking their name from name from a song by Ride, Seattle band Black Nite Crash does little to hide its influence, preferring instead to relish it in the feedback afterburn of the iconic 90′s Brit shoegazers. Their own blend of fuzzed out rock, though, is infused with a hefty dose of psychedelia and raw garage buzz, reminding listeners that “shoegaze” is only stereotyped as glacial paced navel gazing. The reality was much more energetic and enlivened (as recent reincarnations of Ride and Swervedriver have proved). In fact, the only thing slow about Black Nite Crash is its release schedule - Drawn Out Days is the band’s second LP in a decade. “Baby It’s You,” from the June 2012 release, is worth the wait, enticing as it is with its high energy groove that channels Spiritualized’s more spirited numbers, but with more of the churning guitar, determination and swagger of The Jesus & Mary Chains’ chainsaw blues.
Fans can look forward to a more accelerated approach in the band’s music too, as guitarist/vocalist Jim Biggs and the now slightly shifted lineup, are back in the studio working on LP #3.
