Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Today’s selection, featured on the Midday Show with Cheryl Waters, is “My Love Won’t Wait” by Two Gallants on the forthcoming 2012 album The Bloom and The Blight on ATO.
San Francisco duo Two Gallants may have taken a few years off to work on personal projects since the release of their 2007 self-titled album, but Adam Stephens and Tyson Vogel are back to their main outfit with the September release of their forth album, The Bloom and The Blight. Crashing with riotous energy, “My Love Won’t Wait” is a loud return from their five-year recording hiatus. A far cry from anything folky in their catalog, “My Love Won’t Wait” is defined by a nearly-unhinged intensity as Stephens howls over shattering guitar chords and clamorous drums. When he screams “something ain’t quite right with me/I just can’t seem to let you be”, there’s a hint of instability in his delivery that’s only compounded by the haunting coda at the end of the song. If “My Love Won’t Wait” makes only one thing clear, it’s that Two Gallants have returned with the intention of making up their time away by unleashing all of their pent up energy from the last few years in just a few minutes.
Although Two Gallants will hit the road next week as a three-month trek in support of The Bloom and The Blight, there aren’t any Northwestern dates as of yet. However, they will be stopping by KEXP right after their Outside Lands show and appearing live on the Midday Show with Cheryl Waters on August 13 at 1PM. After that, they’ve promised an extensive tour that will run into next year, so keep an eye on their website to be the first to know when they inevitably announce some Northwestern shows.
