It’s Friday, which means it’s time for our weekly series Friday on My Mind. This is a collaborative effort between KEXP and King 5 News, where we look at videos and artists centered around one common theme. This week we’re looking at some of the artists who are performing as a part of our 2012 Concerts at the Mural.
Every Friday in August, join KEXP out on the lawn in front of the mural for the 2012 edition of Concerts at the Mural which are already underway for this summer. KEXP along with the Seattle Center began this concert series back in 2008 and it’s a wonderful way to enjoy live music for free. We started out strong for our first show last week, which was our No Depression Night with Shovels & Rope, Sallie Ford & the Sound Outside, Legendary Oaks, and Fly Moon Royalty. It was a huge success. There was a sea of people for as far as we could see. Big thanks to all of you who came out to that show and to the amazing artists who gave unforgettable performances. We’ve got three more Fridays of music to go and the recent weather has also been kind to us as well. Tonight come out to see Brad, The Young Evils, and Posse. Bring a blanket, bring the kids because it’s all ages, but also don’t fear if you need to get your drink on because there is a beer and wine garden.
And now, take a look at some of the artists playing during the remaining mural shows:
Brad – The Last Bastion (LIVE on KEXP)
Brad formed in 1993 and includes Shawn Smith of Satchel, Stone Gossard of Pearl Jam and Mother Love Bone, Regan Hagar of Malfunkshun. The band is still going strong after twenty years together and this past April they released a new full length called United We Stand. This footage is from when they stopped by KEXP earlier this year in April.
Love Battery – Harold’s Pink Room
Love Battery originally formed in 1989 and I think are one of the most underrated Seattle bands of the 90’s. See them on Friday August 17th along with new up and coming Seattle bands, Absolute Monarchs, and Wayfinders.
Reptar – Sebastian (LIVE on KEXP)
While bands like R.E.M and Pylon tend to be who you think of when you think of music coming out of Athens, Reptar are newcomers out of the same city that have an upbeat bounce to their sound. They formed in 2008 and recently toured as openers for Grouplove. They’ve just released their debut full length Body Faucet this past May. Come out to the Mural to see them perform on August 24th along with Fresh Espresso and Boat.
The Young Evils – Dead Animals
Playing tonight along with Brad and Posse.
Fresh Espresso – Lazerbeams (LIVE on KEXP)
Playing our final Concert at the Mural on August 31st along with Reptar and Boat.
