Tuesday Music News

  • Dinosaur Jr. have released a video for their song “Watch the Corners,” the first from their forthcoming album I Bet On Sky, due out September 18 via Jagjaguwar. The hilarious and touching video, produced in conjunction with Funny Or Die, stars Tim Heidecker, of Tim and Eric fame, as an overprotecting and loving dad with a model airplane collection and a rebellious teenage daughter. Check out the video, which is a good reminder why we love Dinosaur Jr. and why dads are awesome, below:

  • Grimes, the stage name of 24 year old Canadian artsist Claire Boucher, has released a trailer for the “Genesis” music video off her 2012 release Visions. The minute-long trailer features Boucher dancing to an airy song that is definitely not “Genesis” through a desert behind a car in reverse. Check out the trailer below, and be sure to watch Grimes perform “Genesis” live on KEXP here:

  • Modern day punk rock purist Ted Leo has announced a North American solo tour in which he will be supporting singer-songwriter Aimee Mann. Although there are currently no west coast dates, Leo also announced he will be embarking on DIY journey home, “visiting yr living rooms, basements, punk spaces, and VFW halls,” after the tour, so fingers crossed everyone. For more information, including tour dates, head over to Pitchfork.
  • After getting the internet all aflutter, the Avalanches released a demo track titled “A Cowboy Overflow of the Heart” late last night. The track, which could possibly appear on their long awaited forthcoming album, is a spoken-word piece read by Silver Jews’ frontman David Berman. The song is available for download on the group’s website, which is currently overrun with traffic, but be sure to check out “A Cowboy Overflow of the Heart” below via Soundcloud while you wait:
  • Aesop Rock has released a video for “Cycles to Gehenna” off his 2012 release Skelethon featuring a group of badass ballerinas that could probably mess up Kanye’s ballerinas pretty bad. The beautiful and fascinating video was directed by Ben and Pete Lee. Check it out below:
  • Also, this exists.
