Wednesday Music News

  • A little over a week after the release of their third LP A Fragrant World, Yeasayer has put out a video for the album’s track “Longevity.” Watch lead singer Chris Keating age quickly throughout the course of the song before devolving completely into an eyeless skeleton (highly reminiscent of Gus Fring’s final moments) in the video before, and don’t forget to catch Yeasayer live tomorrow night at the Neptune Theater. Tickets available here.

  • The new Deerhoof album Breakup Song is now streaming in it’s entirety over at YouTube in anticipation of the album’s September 4 release via Polyvinyl Records. Each member of the San Francisco noise pop band also produced a video during the process of recording the video which can be seen over at Pitchfork. Watch the videos and then be sure to check out the album, accompanied by some hazy nighttime footage, below:
  • Frank Ocean will be performing on the season opener of Saturday Night Live hosted by “Family Guy” and “Ted” creator Seth McFarlane, according to Entertainment Weekly. The R&B singer once known for his association with Odd Future has risen to his own fame after the critical success of his new album Channel Orange. For more information head over to Stereogum.
  • After his van was auctioned off to an unknown bidder on August 23 by New York City following a slew of parking tickets, singer-songwriter Joseph Arthur has released a new song, recorded on dictaphone, titled “Where is My Van.” If you have any information on who may have purchased his van, which contained some original artwork, merchandise, and several guitar amplifiers, please let Carla Parisi at or Peter Wark at know. In the meantime listen to “Where is My Van” below, and check out this adorable picture of Arthur hugging DJ Kevin Cole here.

  • Melody’s Echo Chamber released a psychedelic video for her track “I Follow You,” featuring plenty of underwater neon colors and a jungle cat. The stage name of Melody Prochet, Melody’s Echo Chamber teamed up with Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker for her self-titled debut, due out September 25 via Fat Possum, resulting in. Check out the video below, and let me know if you can figure out why there’s a tiger in it:

  • The video for Bob Dylan’s first single off his forthcoming album Tempest is a rather violent affair, suggesting that the septuagenarian has been watching a lot of Coen Brothers movies as of late. “Duquesne Whistle” follows a hapless romantic, who has probably been watching a lot of 500 Days of Summer as of late, as he does his best to win over a cute girl with his goofy antics. He ends up getting pepper sprayed, arrested, and in a scene straight out of Reservoir Dogs, both his knees broken with a baseball bat, all the while Bob Dylan roams around the streets with an odd cast of characters 50 years younger than him. Check out the goofy video, which could be used to argue that Dylan thinks Harvey Keitel > Joseph Gordon-Levitt, below:
