“I’m groovy like James Brown. I sing like Pavarotti.” raps Italian hip-hop, singer-songwriter, producer, actor, DJ, VJ, MC, and all around all around awesome human being Lorenzo Cherubini, better known throughout the world as Jovanotti. After being introduced to hip-hop at the age of 14, Jovanotti fell in love with the straightforward atmosphere of the music because he couldn’t understand what they were saying. Several decades later, after a 25 year career, countless hits, and international fame, he not only can finally understand what Grandmaster Flash was saying, but is also on the brink of major success in the United States after playing Bonnaroo in 2011. A lover of all types of music, Jovanotti’s rich sound encompasses a variety of styles with countless influences, ultimately in a sometimes funky, sometimes moving, and always thoughtful collection of music.
Check out Jovanotti’s live in-studio KEXP session below, his first ever U.S. radio performance, featuring one of the most interesting interviews ever conducted in our studio not only because of his thick accent (the way he says “giraffe” is worth it alone) but also because the truly beautiful and inspiring things he has to say about what music truly means to an individual and what that means for the world.
Also I’m pretty sure he’s wearing Air Yeezy 2s.
