Stasia Irons and Catherine Harris-White, also known as Stas and Cat, have had a busy couple of years. After coming together as THEESatisfaction in 2008, the Seattle duo began a journey that took them across the world writing, recording, and sharing their cosmic sound. Signing to Sub Pop after being featured on the Shabazz Palaces critically acclaimed 2011 album Black Up, the duo released their first full-length awE naturalE earlier this year. Combining minimalistic electro-pop and jazz elements with their incredibly soulful spoken-word stylings and sharp-tongued quick-witted raps, awE naturalE is the culmination of years of exploring many different sounds from many different times.
At once soothing and enthralling, THEESatisfaction know how keep the energy high without losing their cool, synchronizing their soulful sounds into a singular, incredibly smooth live show. If you need proof, just check out Stas and Cat’s recent live in-studio KEXP performance of their song “QueenS.” Performing live at the Bumbershoot Music Lounge Saturday afternoon, THEESatisfaction will undoubtedly kept positive, kept it smooth, and without a doubt, kept it funky.
Stepping onto the small and sparsely adorned Music Lounge stage with only a laptop and two microphones for support, THEESatisfaction wasted no time launching into their impressively large and unbelievably fluid 15-song set. Cat and Stas gracefully sang and rapped over one another, intertwining with a practiced precision so fluid it was almost impossible to differentiate one from another at times.
The duo performed songs from their entire catalogue, including their full-length debut as well as well as four years of mixtapes, playing their well known hits such as “EEN SAH EWE” and “QueenS” (which got the entire audience clapping) as well a purely instrumental version of the previously unreleased “Juiced.”
Cat and Stass also made sure to show off their choreographed dance steps, even clearing the microphone stands out of the way for “Bisexual Courting In Red Square” to make room for their impressive moves.
If you’re at Bumbershoot you do not want to miss THEESatisfaction performing at the Sub Pop Stage at 5:15 today.
