Live from MFNW, Day 2: Lost Lander

Portland’s own Lost Lander released their debut album, DRRT, earlier this year amidst a whirlpool of hype. Produced by former Menomena member Brent Knopf, who plays in the band Ramona Falls with Lost Lander lead singer Matt Sheehy, the album is a masterfully crafted work of studio engineering disguised in a perfect indie-rock album. Packed to the brim with joyful choruses and incredibly thoughtful songwriting. As they prepare to embark on a small west-coast tour later this month, Lost Lander stopped by the Doug Fir Lounge for a live at MFNW performance on KEXP, proving that their charm doesn’t lie solely in their fancy studio production.

Combine Sheehy’s impressive vocal abilities with an incredibly talented group of musicians, allow them to swell on stage for half an hour and enjoy their hometown vibes and you’ve got one remarkable show. Opening with “Your Name Is A Fire” and dressed in carefully color coordinated black and white outfits, the band launched into their captivating set heavily dominated with songs from their debut album.

Intermixing a guitar solo every now and then, Sheehy led the group with help from backup vocalist and keyboardist Sarah Fennell, layering her own beautiful on top of his creating beautiful and comforting harmonies that would sound just as familiar on a country track as they do on the band’s powerful indie rock. Be sure to catch Lost Lander on their west-coast tour, including dates in Portland, Olympia, and Seattle later this month. Check out all the dates here.
