Live from MFNW, Day 3: Dinosaur Jr.

As DJ Cheryl Waters said, Dinosaur Jr. is a band that needs absolutely no introduction. Kicking off our final day of broadcast live from the Doug Fir Lounge, at MFNW, the legendary alt-rock group reunited in all their former glory gave the small audience a preview of tonight’s show at the Roseland Theater, featuring Dinosaur Jr., Sebadoh, and J. Mascis.

Taking the stage in front of a mountain of amplifiers without having prepared a set list, the audience shouted out song titles until Lou or J. heard one they liked, prompting them to launch into one of their countless classic hits. Despite the fact that their new album I Bet On Sky comes out later this month, the band didn’t play a song that was under 20-years old. Opening with “The Lung,” the entirely fan selected set also included “Forget the Swan,” “In A Jar,” and “The Wagon.”

Here is everything you need to know about their performance: Dinosaur Jr. has a lot of really good songs and they’re really good at playing them, J. Mascis is an amazing guitarist who doesn’t have to rely on flashy antics for an absolutely face melting performance, and Lou Barlow swore in front of a baby on live radio. All in all hands down an amazing show that no one present is likely to forget anytime soon.
