- Ahead of the release of their forthcoming LP, Scottish quintet Frightened Rabbit are prepping to release an EP, entitled State Hospital, on September 25th through Canvasback/Atlantic. A week out from the official release, the band have put the whole thing up for streaming over at Soundcloud. The band will support the release with a handful of tour dates, including a stop at The Triple Door on October 15th.
- David Byrne & St. Vincent kicked off the tour behind their collaborative Love This Giant album this weekend, and along with the horn-heavy album compositions, it appears they’ll be tearing through their back catalogues as well. The set included a handful of solo Byrne cuts, some St. Vincent tunes, and a first encore that features the one-two punch of “Cruel” into “Burning Down The House.” The duo headline the City Arts Festival on October 17th, and if the video of “Burning Down The House” below doesn’t make you want to buy tickets, nothing will.
- For those who have been looking forward to a video for a track from Cat Power’s recently released Sun, today is a good day. For those who have always wanted to see Chan Marshall star in a music video about living in a post-apocalyptic zombie wasteland, today is the best day ever. The Marshall-directed video for album opener “Cherokee” finds the singer taking on the role of a survivalist who fights off glowing undead with lasers - it’s sort of like The Walking Dead, but on acid. Take it all in below:
- Despite ambiguously canceling the remainder of his tour this year (except for a recently-added spot at the Afghan Whigs-curated All Tomorrow’s Parties later this month), Frank Ocean found time to make a promotional stop on Saturday Night Live this weekend where he played stripped down versions of “Thinkin Bout You” and “Pyramids” with John Mayer, who made some particularly entertaining faces while playing guitar. A few hours later, Mayer and Ocean released a video for “Pyramids” which, appropriate to the song’s subject matter (strippers), features lots of strippers.
