Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Today’s selection, featured on the Midday Show with Cheryl Waters, is “Time to Run” by Lord Huron from the 2012 album Lonesome Dreams on IAMSOUND.
Lord Huron is a music and visual project created by Los Angeles by way of Michigan artist Ben Schneider. Lonesome Dreams, his full-length debut (due on October 9) follows a pair of well received EPs. Schneider has since grown his solo project and now collaborates and plays with a full band. His passion for art and music are often intertwined, and Schneider has composed music for various visual art projects over the years. His work is continually inspired by his outdoor explorations, landscape, and water in particular. Schneider describes our featured song, “Time to Run,” as “A tragic tale of the foolish things a man might find himself doing for a woman, and the consequences that foolishness may bring upon him and those around him. It’s a tale as old as time — one which has and will be repeated endlessly. We tried to be as true as possible to George Ranger Johnson’s book”.
Look for Lonesome Dreams in stores starting October 9. Lord Huron will be in Seattle and performing live at Barboza on Sunday, October 21st, and then will be live on KEXP on Monday, October 22nd, at 11am. You can find out more about the band on their website, or connect with them on Facebook and Twitter. For now, enjoy the video for today’s featured song, shot during one intensely hot marathon day in the Mojave Desert, and featuring an additional scene filmed that night in Los Angeles:
